Q: Why did the city remove a Chiefs shirt from the Peace Offering on the Blue statue?
A: Prior to the Kansas City Chiefs’ 31-20 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday evening, an unidentified person placed a Chiefs jersey on the statue, at the Fourth Street and Bluemont Avenue roundabout.
Crews removed the jersey Monday morning because it is against the city’s policy.
“Parks division staff removed the shirt as we do with any other unapproved sign or advertisement on city property,” said Casey Smithson, city parks superintendent, in an emailed statement to The Mercury.
Smithson said the statue “stands for itself without the need to add additional items.”
