Seven local softball players made their way onto the Kansas Softball Coaches Association’s all-state lists over the weekend.
Senior pitcher Kierra Goos was Manhattan High’s only representative on the 6A all-state team, as she appeared on the second team. She helped the Indians reach a 17-6 record and their first state tournament appearance since 2004.
Goos also made the All-Centennial League first team.
Wamego, the 4A state champion, put four players on the 4A all-state teams after finishing the year with a 20-1 record. Senior Maya Gallagher, sophomore Peyton Hardenberger and senior Ashten Pierson all made the first team, while senior Trista Hoobler received second-team all-state honors. All four of them made the North Central Kansas all-league team this season as well.
The Red Raiders won the 4A state title for the second time in three seasons with a 1-0 victory over McPherson in the championship game on May 26.
Rock Creek junior Sam Killingsworth and sophomore Teagan Zenger appeared on the 4A all-state second team. Additionally, they both were first-team selections on the All-Mid-East League lists.
The Mustangs made their third straight trip to the 4A state tournament this season after entering the regional tournament with a 9-11 record. They fell to the eventual state champion Wamego 4-0 in the state quarterfinals on May 25.
