The fall class will begin on Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Master Gardener trainees will meet each Friday until November 3, mostly at Pottorf Hall. An application is available on the front page of our website or can be obtained from the office.
The cost is $100 for the 40 hours of information that is presented. It will also cover the cost of an official name badge upon completion of 40 hours of volunteering. I’m almost certain that you will recoup $100 from learning research-based gardening in one season.
There are several projects that Master Gardeners work on. They organize the area garden tour, information booths at community events, participate in local parades, teach our youth to garden, and oversee the butterfly garden at the Sunset Zoo to name a few.
Every other month, the Master Gardeners meet for an educational activity, lecture, or field trip. We have toured the K-State Research and Extension centers in Olathe, Haysville and at Tuttle Creek.
A pot-luck dinner is usually part of the gathering. These are not mandatory meetings, but you do get acquainted with the other 50 Master Gardeners.
Master Gardeners assist the community in having a great place to live. You and a friend could be one of these advocates. The requirement is to have a desire to learn and give back to the community.
Ask yourself, do you want to be a Master Gardener? Then say yes. Please contact me for an application or for additional information.
