Let’s make Manhattan look more welcoming
Ned Seaton’s August 10 “Dumpy” editorial acknowledges that the K-177 entrance to our fair city is considerably less than stellar in spite of the fact that it parallels the Konza Prairie and includes a scenic 15-mile overview of the Flint Hills.
As a traveler descends into the valley which encompasses our city, it can be jarring to behold a large junk car lot near what will soon be an attractive brewery and restaurant while in the distance a new Art and Light Museum is being constructed near the Discovery Center, both overlooking a mostly neglected and abused Kansas River, once described as the most beautiful wonder in the area.
Perhaps it would be fitting at our annual January retreat for city and county leaders to seriously consider and plan for how these dumpy distractions can and will be addressed.
