Manhattan High girls’ swimming wrapped up its 2023 campaign Saturday with a 16th-place finish at the 6A state meet at Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka.
The Indians tallied 39 team points, placing them behind Blue Valley-Stilwell’s 61 and ahead of Haysville-Campus’s 38. Lawrence Free State won the 6A state championship with 364 points, while Blue Valley North was the runner-up at 252.
Junior Ruth Perez led Manhattan with a sixth-place spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.20, which earned the Indians 1/3 of their total points.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Perez, sophomore Samantha Tarter, senior Sophia Steffensmeier and senior Juliet Balman came in 11th at 1:58.45. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tarter, Perez, Balman and senior Audrey Conley was 12th at 1:47.64, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Steffensmeier, Balman, Tarter and senior Avery Inman was 16th at 4:02.74.
Steffensmeier came in 16th in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:09.17 and in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:04.77.
Breanne Sanneman finished 20th in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 220.30.
