I’m curious why in Ned Seaton’s October 29 editorial he characterized Kim Zito as combative.
Kim does question her opponent’s manner of saying that he’s for one thing, yet voting the complete opposite. She does speak up when she perceives injustices.
She is not a doormat, and I doubt the term “combative” would have been used if she were a male. I urge you to place more care in the adjectives used to describe those who are fighting for the rights of Kansans.

Residents welcome
to enjoy military
memorabilia display
For the 16th time, local military members will lay out a large military display at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. The display will combine activities of World War I, World War II, the Korea conflict, Vietnam, and Iraq. Items will be shown at the center, 412 Leavenworth St., from Nov. 7 to Nov. 11.
The Leavenworth room of the senior center will be filled with interesting military items, some over a century old. They will include a huge military crest collection, a military hat collection, uniforms of all branches of service to include a World War I dough boy uniform with steel helmet.
Further enhancing the display will be hand- carved military patriotic items, combat gear, various types of field uniforms, captured VietCong equipment, and special photos of the Russo-Japanese war of 1905. American, German and Russian weapons used during WWII also will be shown. There will be items from the home front, patriotic photos, posters and banners and D-Day photos of combat units. We even have the GI’s best friend: the P-38 can opener. Each year we have additional items loaned to us from the community. If you have military items you’d like to show, please call the senior center for information.
This is our small way of giving back to the many Riley County service families and others who gave us so much support when we were deployed overseas.
