It's been nearly five months since the Hollywood writers strike began and more than two months since actors joined them. Soon, the walkouts could break historic records. With writers contract talks resuming, entertainment industry workers have turned on the side hustles to pay their bills. Ryan Meyer, a lighting expert with gaffing and director of photography experience, says he and others have become handymen. He recently lit an actor's home foyer and helped a neighbor with a busted Jacuzzi. Others have turned to friends for writing work, or they've headed to Trader Joe's or back to bartending to pay rent. For many, their savings are gone or running out.
