Police arrested a Manhattan man for arson and aggravated battery Monday.
Daniel Lee, 39, allegedly started a fire that “threatened” homes in a neighborhood south of Fort Riley Boulevard. Earlier in the day, Lee also committed his aggravated battery charge against a 48-year-old man.
Lee hit the man with a kitchen pan at the victim’s residence. The blow to the head caused lacerations, and medical providers transported him to Via Christi for the injuries.
He then burned the victim’s electronic items in a fire.
Riley County Fire District No. 1 and Manhattan Fire Department were dispatched to the residence at about 11:15 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire approaching two additional homes.
First responders prevented the fire from destroying other homes. However, a camper and utility trailer belonging to Donna Barry, of Manhattan, were damaged.
Lee is held at Riley County jail on $20,000 bond, but the fire is currently under investigation by the Office of the Kansas Fire Marshal.
No injuries to people, pets, or livestock were reported as a result of the fire.
