The Riley County Police Department awarded four correctional officers Monday at the Riley County Law Enforcement Agency board meeting.
RCPD Director Brian Peete called the officers to come before the board members to award them for saving an inmate’s life, who attempted suicide in September 2022.
Lt. Travis Freidline, officer Daniel Zoeller, officer José Flores and officer Travis Bolton received the recognition.
“I have so much pride and respect for people who do this job because it’s not only physically taxing, but mentally taxing,” Peete said. “They’re doing it every day in the most stressful circumstances.”
Peete said Freidline and Flores held the inmate in a “safe position,” while Zoeller used a belt cutter to remove the “obstruction” from her airway to earn the life-saving award.
Bolton accepted a certificate of appreciation for “coordinating the emergency response.”
